This is not our typical Contend blog post. Although this is different in content, the desire is the same – I want to help better equip you in an area of your life.
1) A Pen
I think this is an essential. This is great for church, going to work, going to Walmart, etc. There have been times that I’ve forgotten my pen when I was at church and I had to ask my wife for one. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been at a store or bank and I was signing a receipt and they said, “Oh, you have your own pen. You’re prepared.”
In addition to being the Youth Pastor of Dunes Baptist Church, I work a construction job. I carry a marker to work along with my pen. There are things that I can write on at work with a marker on which a pen will not write.
2) A Flashlight
I never leave the house without a flashlight (at least one). This goes along with the nature of my job, but even on the weekend I carry a flashlight. There are many places that are dark – even in the middle of the day. I personally don’t like the dark. It’s not that I’m scared of it, I just like being able to see. A flashlight helps with that. There are many other “tactical” or important uses for a light, but that will have to wait for another time.
3) A Knife
I’m not necessarily talking about carrying a knife so you can be like a ninja – although, if you have those skills, by all means. A man, and lady for that matter, should never be without a way to open a package. A knife is an extremely important tool to have all the time. There is literally never a time when I don’t have a knife or two with me. There are so many uses for them, and they are a crucial part of being prepared.
As I mentioned at the beginning of this post, this isn’t the typical Contend post. I do think preparedness is something very important for us as Contenders, and these three things (although there are many more) are crucial to that!
