This week we started 2019. The old year is gone and the new year has started. Often we look at the start of a year as a opportunity for new beginnings. As we start this year, let me offer a thought that I believe will help motivate our service to God this year.
1) Realize how much God loves you (John 3:16)
The truth is that God loves you! His love for mankind is indescribable. He loves us so much that he send His Son to be born humbly, to live perfectly, and to die sacrificially. There’s been no greater love ever shown.
2) Realize this love should be our motivation for service (2 Corinthians 5:14)
The Bible says, “the love of Christ constraineth us.” Once we realize God’s love for us, we should let that realization constrain or motivate us to do something. With all God has done for us, isn’t He worth some time in His Word? Isn’t He worth some time in prayer? Isn’t He worthy of our praise? Doesn’t He deserve for us to tell about Him?
3) Use your new realizations and motivation to make a big difference for Christ
Once you see God’s love, and once you get this motivation, decide to get busy. Get in the Bible to get close to God. Ask Him to help you know His will. Determine to share the Gospel. Make a habit of praising God for all He’s done!
Let’s make 2019 a year when we realize and live in the love that God has for us. We don’t do things for God to make Him love us – we do thing BECAUSE He loves us! Contending for the faith in 2019 will become much easier when we do it because we know God’s love!
